The Ondo State House of Assembly has resolved to uphold the current government arrangement, rejecting the activation of the doctrine of necessity that would have seen Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa assume the role of acting governor.

Speaker Olamide Oladiji disclosed that after an exhaustive session on Tuesday, the assembly decided to align with a resolution made during a meeting with President Bola Tinubu in Abuja, ending expectations for Aiyedatiwa’s assumption of the acting governor’s position in Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s absence.

Recall that as earlier reported by MUK TV, Tinubu had last week intervened in the leadership crisis in the Sunshine State, directing the Aiyedatiwa to continue playing his role as the deputy governor.

Oladiji affirmed that the state’s political status quo remains unchanged in the absence of the governor.

Consequently, Aiyedatiwa was asked to retain his deputy governor position, with all impeachment proceedings against him nullified.

He detailed the resolution reached, stating, “All parties shall embrace peace; status quo is maintained; impeachment proceedings are terminated, court cases withdrawn; no dissolution of the State Executive Council; Aiyedatiwa continues as Deputy Governor.”

The assembly appointed three enforcers to monitor compliance with the resolution.

The Speaker also urged for peace and development in the state, commending Tinubu’s intervention and warning against political turmoil.

Despite expectations after Tinubu’s intervention, Aiyedatiwa’s assumption as acting governor did not materialize amidst the ongoing crisis between Akeredolu and Aiyedatiwa’s camp.
