The Senate presented accolades to the Nigerian Army for its national security efforts during a joint budget defense session.

The chairman of the Senate Committee on Army, Abdulaziz Yar’Adua, recognized the Army’s contributions despite the recent bombing of communities in Kaduna state.

The incident in Tundun Biri, Southern Kaduna, resulted in casualties while the Army acknowledged its role in the unfortunate occurrence during an operation against terrorists.

Yar’Adua commended the Chief of Army Staff, Taoreed Lagbaja, for taking responsibility and assured transparency in the 2024 Army budget deliberations, emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation into the Kaduna incident.

“This presentation is in recognition of your contributions and service to the country particularly, the security of the nation,” he said.

The Army Chief called for a review of the funding system, citing its impact on operational efficiency. He urged swift passage of the Armed Forces Support Trust Fund Bill, stating it would significantly bolster funding for military operations. Additionally, Lagbaja presented the 2024 budget of N787.2 billion, reflecting the Army’s needs and objectives for the fiscal year.
