President Bola Tinubu has once again convened a high-level meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, summoning Ondo State’s Deputy Governor, Hon Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the House of Assembly Speaker, Rt Hon Olamide Oladiji, and other key figures. This meeting, slated for today (Monday), appears to address the escalating political unrest in the state.

Vanguard reports that Sources from Akure suggest that in addition to the deputy governor and the Speaker, the President has extended invitations to the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Princess Oladunni Odu, and the state’s party chairman, Ade Adetimehin.

Although other invitees remain unconfirmed, the meeting aims to resolve the ongoing political crisis exacerbated by Governor Akeredolu’s prolonged absence following his return from a medical trip abroad.

At a previous meeting in November attended by notable figures like the state party chairman, the SSG, the governor’s son, and senators representing different districts, a resolution was made to maintain the status quo.

However, amidst these deliberations, activist Omoyele Sowore has announced plans for an ‘Occupy Ondo State’ protest at Akure Town Hall next Saturday.

Sowore intends to highlight concerns regarding state governance and Governor Akeredolu’s handling of affairs.

In response to these planned protests, State Police Commissioner Asabi Abiodun has issued a warning against actions that could disrupt peace in the state.

The police spokesperson, Funmi Odunlami, emphasized the police’s commitment to respecting the citizens’ rights while maintaining law and order.

Commissioner Abiodun urged residents not to be swayed by potential instigators of chaos, assuring the public of the police force’s readiness to uphold peace and security in Ondo State.

The statement from Odulami partly reads, “The attention of the command has been drawn to the intention of desultory persons to stir the still water of the state

“The intelligence unit of the police through underground findings reported that the cacophony of Protest being rang is with a singular aim of causing chaos in the state, that can further lead to breakdown of law and order that will disrupt the activities of the good people of the state.

“The Police will take into cognisance, chapter 4, sec. 40 of the constitution in respecting the right of the people.

“However, the command will not fold her hands and allow the rights of others be trampled on while upholding the peoples right.”
