Senate President Godswill Akpabio disclosed details on the aftermath of his birthday colloquium, shedding light on the incident that occurred after the event.

The Senate President’s 61st birthday celebration witnessed a birthday colloquium in Abuja held at Transcorp Hilton, graced by the presence of President Bola Tinubu and other top government officials.

Following the event in Abuja, reports emerged that Akpabio had a health episode, slumping while seated at the hotel where the colloquium was held.

Addressing journalists in his office the next day, Akpabio clarified that the incident was a result of stress-induced exhaustion compounded by a malaria diagnosis.

He explained, “What eventually happened after the event was a show of humanity. I went home and I called my doctors, and I was assured that I have malaria, mingled with stress, which could also be described in another way as exhaustion.”

Akpabio highlighted the importance of hydration to prevent exhaustion.

Despite the incident, Akpabio reassured the public that the National Assembly remains committed to its responsibilities and will resume its duties as scheduled.

He stated, “This is to say that the work goes on. I want to assure Nigerians that the National Assembly is intact and we are still going on with our duty and our appropriation. We will resume on December 20.”

Akpabio emphasized the committees’ role in ensuring the timely passage of the budget before year-end for the President’s approval.
