Nigerian gospel singer and pastor Nathaniel Bassey has achieved a historic milestone after his official YouTube channel surpassed one billion views, making him the first African gospel artist reported to reach the landmark.

Figures from his official channel, Nathaniel Bassey Main, showed that it had accumulated more than 1.014 billion views and 5.24 million subscribers as of Sunday, November 1, 2026.

The achievement comes more than 15 years after the channel was created on March 4, 2011, and reflects the growing international reach of his gospel music, live ministrations and worship sessions.

The milestone also coincides with the October 2026 edition of the Hallelujah Challenge, the online prayer and worship programme established by Bassey in June 2017.

What started as a midnight worship session on Instagram Live has developed into an international Christian gathering, attracting thousands of participants from different countries and millions of viewers through its recorded broadcasts.

Some of Bassey’s popular gospel songs, including Imela, Onise Iyanu, Olowogbogboro, You Are God and Tobechukwu, have also contributed to his growing audience across Nigeria and beyond.

The October edition of the Hallelujah Challenge recorded impressive numbers, with its opening session attracting more than four million views, while the grand finale, known as the Hallelujah Festival, garnered over 4.3 million views.

Despite the massive audience generated by the programme, Bassey has previously maintained that the Hallelujah Challenge is primarily about worship and spiritual devotion rather than financial gains.

His latest accomplishment marks another significant moment for Nigerian gospel music, highlighting the growing influence of African gospel ministers on the global digital stage.
