Members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, reportedly loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, have taken a step back, formally withdrawing the impeachment notice previously served to Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

In their session convened in the state capital of Port Harcourt on Wednesday, the lawmakers singularly focused on the critical matter of retracting the impeachment notice against Governor Fubara.

This pivotal decision emerged after a truce, brokered during a meeting between President Bola Tinubu and the conflicting parties at the Aso Villa in Abuja on Monday.

During the session, as reported by TVC, lawmakers conveyed their resolution to rescind the impeachment notice through a notice read on the house floor. They explicitly cited their respect for the President as the driving force behind this significant move.

The clash between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike had fractured the unity among lawmakers in the House.

Notably, 27 members defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to join the ruling All Progressives Congress.

This feud unfolded in a series of events, witnessing parallel legislative sittings, uncovering an impeachment plot against the governor, the demolition of the Assembly complex, and a wave of resignations within Fubara’s cabinet, primarily composed of pro-Wike commissioners.
