Police Inspectors Sunday Adetoye and Ogunleye Stephen, based at the Zone 2 Command headquarters in Lagos, faced dismissal over accusations including armed robbery, official corruption, and performing illegal duties.
The dismissal order came from AIG Mohammed Ali after the duo, along with vigilantes and a driver, allegedly conducted a raid without a warrant, taking electronic items from a residence in Obada-Oko, Ogun State.
The incident happened on November 23, 2023, when armed with submachine rifles and live ammunition, they allegedly stormed the property and seized phones and laptops from Taiwo Monsuru and Akintola Sunday.
SP Umma Ayuba, the Zonal Public Relations Officer, revealed the subsequent arrest of the accused through a roadblock set up by officers at Ifo Division, except for ASP Ajayi Victor, who remains at large.
The AIG has ordered the dismissed officers to be charged to court alongside the civilians involved, stressing the force’s commitment to professionalism and a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption or misconduct.
Ayuba emphasized the imperative role of the public in reporting any unprofessional conduct by police officers, reaffirming the Police Force’s dedication to ensuring the safety and protection of all citizens.
