Following Ghana’s 2-1 loss to Cape Verde in the African Cup of Nations, a disgruntled Ghana fan reportedly unleashed a verbal tirade against manager Chris Hughton.

Reports suggest that shortly after the match, an irate supporter confronted the 65-year-old coach at the team’s hotel in the Ivory Coast.

Local media, as per The Mirror, detailed the incident, indicating that the fan was later apprehended by the police.

Conflicting reports, however, question whether the assailant was formally arrested by Ivorian authorities or simply removed from the scene.

Hughton, who took charge of the Ghanaian national team in February 2023, faced his toughest day in the role with the defeat.

Cape Verde’s Garry Rodrigues seized an opportunity in the 92nd minute, capitalizing on a defensive error to secure the win.

The Island nation had initially taken the lead in the first half through midfielder Jamiro Monteiro.

Despite Ghana’s efforts, including a disallowed goal for offside, centre-back Alexander Djiku’s header only leveled the score.

Cape Verde ultimately claimed the top spot in Group B after Egypt’s 2-2 draw with Mozambique.
