Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun, in a proactive move, has inaugurated a Special Intervention Squad (SIS) to effectively address the escalating issue of kidnappings in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and nationwide.
The newly launched SIS is designated for specialized operations across all area councils in the FCT and simultaneously deployed in select states throughout the country.
Recent incidents of kidnappings in Abuja villages, particularly in areas like Bwari, Dei Dei, Dutse, and Mpape, prompted the IGP’s decisive action in establishing this specialized team.
IGP Egbetokun emphasized that the squad comprises highly trained officers specifically equipped to confront and resolve abduction challenges.
The deployment includes personnel from tactical units within the Force, aerial support through helicopters and drones, specialized vehicles, as well as K9 units, demonstrating a comprehensive approach to addressing the scourge of kidnapping.
