The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) South West Zonal Office has issued a situation report, attributing the explosion in Adeyi Estate, Bodija, Ibadan, Oyo State, to Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
The Southwest Zonal Office received a distress alert for the explosion at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, deploying response agencies to the scene behind Ace Mall in Bodija GRA, Ibadan.
NEMA observed a suspected IED explosion affecting more than 20 houses.
While casualty figures remain uncertain, ongoing search and rescue operations are being conducted.
Stakeholders present, as mentioned in the report, include the NPF, NSCDC, DSS, SEMA, Nigeria Army, Federal and State Fire Service, Nigerian Red Cross, State Ministry of Environment, and Amotekun Corps. Additional resources are being mobilized to support the operations.
Search and rescue operations temporarily paused for responders to refresh, resuming at 7:00 a.m. Wednesday.
Security measures in the area have been heightened, with plans for further support underway.
