In a tense encounter on Tuesday, armed policemen deployed teargas against the 16 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Plateau State House of Assembly who were recently ousted by the Court of Appeal.

The lawmakers, accompanied by their supporters, had gathered at the Rayfield Old Government House in Jos for a planned resumption of plenary when the incident ensued.

It would be recalled that MUK TV reported on Monday that the sacked lawmakers vowed to return to plenary despite earlier court’s ruling that nullified their elections.

Security personnel, including the police, took control of the Government House premises, preventing the sacked lawmakers from accessing the House of Assembly chambers. Despite this, the lawmakers stood firm in their decision not to leave the premises, intensifying the standoff.
