After enduring 11 distressing days in the clutches of kidnappers, Professor Godwin Emezue, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (DVC) of Abia State University (ABSU), has regained his freedom.

Emezue’s ordeal began on January 26, 2024, when he was abducted while purchasing petrol at a filling station in Umuahia.

The nightmare came to an end on Tuesday night, as he was released from captivity.

Reports suggest that Emezue’s family paid a hefty ransom of N25 million to secure his release.

Initially demanding N35 million, the kidnappers threatened to end the professor’s life if their demands were not met.

Despite the family’s plea for a reduced ransom of N5 million, the kidnappers persisted, even releasing footage of the professor’s torture as a warning.

The family faced additional pressure when the kidnappers demanded an extra N5 million, escalating the stakes even further.

However, with Emezue’s life on the line, the family complied with the demands.

Despite his release, Emezue’s ordeal has left him in need of medical attention.

He is currently admitted to an undisclosed hospital, where he is receiving the necessary care and support following his traumatic experience.
