Colombian pop sensation Shakira has openly expressed her uncertainty about finding love again following her breakup with former Barcelona football star Gerard Piqué.
The couple, who parted ways in June 2022 after 11 years together, reportedly due to allegations of infidelity on Piqué’s part, faced public scrutiny over their split.
In an intimate interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music 1, Shakira shared her candid thoughts on the matter, revealing her doubts about the possibility of experiencing love once more.
“I thought love would be there forever for me, and that’s one of my broken dreams. I don’t know if I’d like to find that again. Probably not,” Shakira confessed, reflecting on her past expectations.
The Grammy-winning artist elaborated on her shift in focus post-breakup, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing friendship in her life moving forward.
“I think friendship lasts longer than love. Though I still think experiencing love, fully experiencing it with all its peaks and valleys, it’s so essential to the human life,” Shakira mused.
Acknowledging her newfound appreciation for friendship, Shakira admitted to previously undervaluing its significance, often prioritizing romantic relationships over platonic bonds.
“I wasn’t one of those people who valued friendship as much. I’ve always valued family and having a partner in a couple. I’ve always been in a couple,” she confessed.
However, Shakira emphasized the profound impact of friendship during her darkest moments, noting how friends supported her through adversity and revealed the true meaning of life.
“Those who did really showed me the true, the true meaning of life. I might not grow old with a partner, but I will grow old surrounded by good friends,” Shakira concluded, embracing the prospect of a future enriched by meaningful connections.
