The Tiv Traditional Council, under the guidance of the Tor Tiv, Prof James Ayatse, successfully facilitated reconciliation talks between Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia and Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume.
Following a closed-door discussion, the erstwhile political adversaries, entangled in a bitter feud over leadership in the North Central state, publicly embraced, eliciting cheers from their supporters.
Tensions had escalated with the governor’s recent inauguration of a factional All Progressives Congress (APC) State Executive Council, prompting police intervention to secure the APC State Secretariat and prevent violence.
Expressing concern over the escalating crisis, the Tiv paramount ruler and his council extended an invitation to both leaders for dialogue at the Tor Tiv Palace in Gboko.
Ayatse, addressing journalists, affirmed that peace had been restored between the two leaders, urging all stakeholders to work together for the advancement of the state.
