Super Eagles media officer, Promise Efoghe, has shed more light on the proposed Russia vs Nigeria match, which has garnered mixed reactions, Muktv reports.

Nigeria’s proposed international friendly against Russia remains uncertain, as the Super Eagles media officer revealed that discussions are still at the administrative level.

Russia recently announced plans to face Nigeria in an international friendly, despite its ongoing FIFA ban from participating in any international match organised by the World Football Body or any international competition.

This has sparked mixed reactions among Nigerian football faithful, who wish to know if the Nigeria Football Federation will accept the friendly.

Mr. Efoghe, when contacted for clarification, stated that further details are yet to be confirmed.
“This is still at the administrative level, and the best person to comment would be the communications director of the Nigeria Football Federation,” Efoghe told Soccernet.ng. “But details about this event are still sketchy. There will be more information during the international window next month.

The uncertainty surrounding the fixture has raised questions, as Russia remains excluded from FIFA and UEFA competitions due to geopolitical sanctions.

The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations champions, on the other hand, having secured their 2025 AFCON ticket, may use the friendly as part of their build-up for the upcoming tournament.

As it stands, the NFF is yet to issue an official statement regarding the match, leaving the Nigerian football community waiting for further updates on whether the fixture will be held or not.
