The Edo State Government has restated its commitment to protecting the ozone layer and implementing measures aimed at reducing activities that contribute to its depletion.
The Commissioner for Environment and Sustainability, Mr Nosa Adams, stated this in Benin City during an event organised to commemorate the 2026 International Ozone Day.
Adams said the state government would continue to promote sustainable cooling practices and environmental protection, while supporting efforts to reduce harmful gas emissions linked to global warming.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs Edith Ebowonyi, the Commissioner said the government would strengthen collaboration with relevant stakeholders through training and capacity development programmes focused on environmental protection.
She said the state would continue to invest in the training and development of stakeholders to promote a cooler and more sustainable environment.
Also speaking, the Edo State Coordinator of the National Association of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Practitioners (NARAP), Mr Isaac Oseiga, said the programme was designed to equip practitioners with knowledge and skills to address climate change and protect the ozone layer.
The event featured a technical session where participants were trained on the proper use of tools and practices aimed at preventing ozone layer depletion.
A book titled “Nigeria’s Leadership Role on Ozone Layer”, written by a former National President of NARAP, Mr Ozaveshe Balogun, was also unveiled during the programme.
