President Bola Tinubu has cautioned police officers across the country to desist from any form of intimidation or abuse of the citizens they are mandated to protect.

Delivering his message through Senate President Godswill Akpabio at the 2nd Annual Inspector General of Police’s Award and Commendation Ceremony held in Abuja on Thursday, Tinubu emphasized the importance of ethical conduct and professionalism within the Force.

Be reminded that the power you wield is not for intimidation but for protection. It is not for abuse but for service,” Tinubu declared in his address. You must be guided by the highest standards of accountability and professionalism.”

The President charged officers at all levels to respect the rule of law and to protect the fundamental rights of every Nigerian, stressing that only through integrity and transparency can public trust in the police be restored.

He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s dedication to strengthening the Nigeria Police Force through provision of modern equipment, technological advancements, improved welfare packages, and ongoing training.

This administration remains steadfast in its commitment to the transformation of the Nigeria Police Force,” he said.

Congratulating award recipients, Tinubu praised their dedication and urged them to continue leading by example.

You have reminded us of what is possible when duty meets dedication and when service is driven by honour. But I urge you, do not rest on your laurels,” he advised. “Let your example inspire others within the Force to emulate your discipline, your hard work, your professionalism, and your integrity.”

The President’s message served as both a commendation and a call to higher standards, as the government continues to push for a more responsive and community-centered policing system in Nigeria.
