Former Kano State governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has waded into the controversial dismissal of 1,000 Hisbah personnel, setting up a 44-member committee to probe the action of the state government.

The committee, chaired by Baffa Babba Dan Agundi, Director General of the National Productivity Centre, is mandated to identify and verify the affected officers and recommend their reinstatement or redeployment.

Speaking for Ganduje, Dan Agundi said the directive came from the former governor, who also once served as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He noted that the mass dismissal has sparked outrage among stakeholders, many of whom are demanding answers from the government.

Dan Agundi added that “The Hisbah known for its role in promoting moral conduct and enforcing Islamic values in Kano, has long been a significant institution in the state’s socio-religious landscape.”

The committee will submit its findings within a stipulated timeframe, with Ganduje insisting that the grievances of the dismissed officers must be addressed.
