President Bola Tinubu has nominated tax reform architect Dr. Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of State for Finance, setting the stage for a major recalibration for Nigeria’s fiscal reforms.

The nomination was formally transmitted to the Senate in a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and confirmed in a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Oyedele replaces Dr. Doris Anite-Uzoka, who has now been redeployed to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning, making it her third portfolio in the current administration.

A respected economist and public policy expert from Ikaram, Akoko in Ondo State, Oyedele had chaired the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms.

Under his leadership, the committee consolidated more than 60 different taxes into fewer than 10 laws and introduced sweeping changes that took effect on January 1, 2026.

Among the headline reforms: zero income tax for Nigerians earning N800,000 or less annually, tax exemptions for small businesses with turnover below N50 million, and generous incentives for companies that create jobs and increase wages.

With 22 years at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he rose to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader, Oyedele is seen as the brain behind Nigeria’s new tax architecture.

He also lectures at Babcock University and serves as a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School.

Now heading to the Finance Ministry, where Wale Edun remains substantive minister, Oyedele is expected to oversee the implementation of the very reforms he championed.
