There was laughter, applause, and raised eyebrows in Benin City on Tuesday as Senator Adams Oshiomhole declared that political sins cannot send any Nigerian politician to hell.

The Edo North lawmaker made the hilarious remark at the Edo State APC congress while reacting to a plea for forgiveness from newly elected state chairman, Jarret Tenebe.

Dismissing the weight of political missteps, Oshiomhole insisted that politics comes with its own kind of “sins”, but none eternal.

“Political sin cannot lead anybody to hellfire,” he said.

He went further, brushing aside the notion of political wrongdoing as something permanent.

“Jarret said all the sins he has committed should be forgiven. I said he who does not sin does not belong to this planet Earth. Political sinners don’t need to go to hell.

Political sins can grow around a moment and then just dissolve. Jarret, you are brand new, staleness like a mint.”

The declaration instantly became the highlight of the congress, with party faithful reacting to the senator’s colourful take on forgiveness and party unity.
