Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has raised media dust after revealing he felt like shooting Channels Television presenter Seun Okinbaloye over remarks about Nigeria drifting into a one-party state.

Wike made the shocking disclosure on Friday during a media chat in Abuja, reacting angrily to comments made on a recent episode of Politics Today on Channels Television.

Speaking bluntly, the Minister said: “If there was any way to break the screen, I’d have shot him.”

The outburst followed Thursday’s programme, which centred on the leadership crisis rocking the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) recent actions.

Wike’s statement has since drawn attention to the rising political tensions and the state of press freedom in Nigeria.
