The overall best graduating student of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) has credited the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) for playing a pivotal role in their academic success, describing the support as a lifeline that made their educational journey possible.
Speaking during the university’s convocation ceremony, the top-performing graduate expressed deep appreciation to NELFUND for providing the financial assistance needed to complete their studies without interruption. The student noted that access to the loan scheme eased the burden of tuition and living expenses, allowing full focus on academics.
According to the graduate, the initiative not only removed financial barriers but also served as motivation to strive for excellence. “Without the loan, continuing my education would have been extremely difficult. NELFUND gave me the opportunity to pursue my dreams and achieve this milestone,” they said.
NELFUND, a federal government initiative aimed at expanding access to higher education through student loans, has been increasingly recognized as a key enabler for students from low- and middle-income backgrounds across Nigeria.
University officials at the event also commended the scheme, highlighting its role in improving student retention and academic performance. They urged more eligible students to take advantage of the program to support their educational pursuits.
The recognition of NELFUND’s impact comes amid ongoing efforts by the government to strengthen the student loan system and ensure broader access to quality education nationwide.
