Tragedy struck in the early hours of April 25, 2026, as a member of the National Youth Service Corps, Abdulsamad Jamiu, lost his life during a violent security incident in Dei-Dei, Abuja.

The Guards Brigade confirmed that the fatal encounter occurred at Shagari Estate when troops on routine night patrol responded swiftly to a distress call over an ongoing armed robbery.

On arrival, the situation escalated as the fleeing suspects opened fire on the operatives, triggering a tense exchange of gunfire.

In the crossfire, the corps member was critically hit and later succumbed to his injuries, despite efforts by security personnel to contain the attack and safeguard residents.

Describing the scene as “highly volatile,” the Brigade stated that troops were fully engaged in repelling the attackers and restoring calm at the time the fatal injury occurred.

Military authorities have expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family, the NYSC, and all affected by the shocking loss.

They also assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway to uncover the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.

Jamiu’s remains have been deposited at Kubwa General Hospital, while security forces reaffirmed their resolve to protect lives and property across the Federal Capital Territory.

Residents have been urged to remain calm and continue cooperating with security agencies as efforts intensify to track down those responsible.
