Former Nasarawa State Governor and Senator representing Nasarawa South, Umar Tanko Al-Makura, has expressed confidence that former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, would make the state proud if elected governor in 2027.

Al-Makura gave the assurance during a visit to the palace of the Emir of Lafia, where he accompanied the former police chief and his supporters ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election.

According to Al-Makura, the visit was more than a routine political courtesy, describing it as a homecoming for a son returning to seek the blessings, guidance, and prayers of his royal father after consultations across the state.

It is not just a courtesy visit, but a responsibility for a son who has gone round meeting leaders, traditional rulers, and stakeholders across the state to return home and brief his father on the journey so far, especially with only a few days left before the APC governorship primary,” Al-Makura stated.

He noted that the delegation came before the Emir alongside supporters and admirers of the former IGP to pay what he described as a “special courtesy visit” distinct from others held in different royal palaces.

Al-Makura further commended the conduct of the ongoing political process within the APC, saying the emergence of candidates should be determined through a transparent democratic process rather than endorsement or preferential arrangements.

“We are happy that the process is aligning with democratic principles. There should be no endorsement, no consensus arrangement, and no preferential treatment. The people must be allowed to vote and their votes must count,” he said.

The senator assured the Emir that Mohammed Adamu and members of his campaign team would conduct themselves in line with democratic best practices and the provisions of the law throughout the exercise.

Your Royal Majesty, we want to assure you that you will be proud of IGP Adamu and proud of those working with him because this campaign will be carried out with integrity, fairness, and respect for the law.

“By the grace of God, we believe we will emerge victorious,” he added.
