Iranian officials report that a significant blaze has engulfed an administrative building at Imam Khomeini International Airport on the outskirts of Tehran, sending thick smoke over the area and triggering a major deployment of fire crews and emergency services.
Iran’s Mehr news agency and other local outlets said the fire started on Wednesday inside a customs or administrative office building at Imam Khomeini International Airport, which serves as the main international hub for the capital. Witnesses and images shared on social media showed flames and plumes of smoke rising from the facility as firefighters worked to bring the blaze under control.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of the incident or whether there were any casualties, and there was no immediate information on the extent of damage to the building. Officials also did not immediately clarify how airport operations, including passenger flights and cargo handling, were affected by the fire.
Imam Khomeini International Airport, located south of Tehran, is Iran’s primary international air gateway and a key hub for several domestic and regional carriers. The airport has seen increased attention in recent months amid regional tensions and previous disruptions to air traffic in and around Iran.
Emergency teams remained at the scene as firefighters continued cooling operations and investigators began examining the site to determine what triggered the blaze. Officials are expected to release further details once the fire is fully contained and an initial assessment of the impact on airport services is completed.
