Senator Kabir Garba Marafa has formally emerged as the governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Zamfara State, strengthening the party’s bid ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Marafa, a former senator who previously represented Zamfara Central in the National Assembly, only recently defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the NDC, citing a desire for greater internal democracy, inclusion and policy-driven politics. His swift rise within the party underscores NDC’s confidence in his political experience and grassroots reach across Zamfara and the wider North-West region.

Party leaders in Zamfara have openly backed Marafa as their preferred standard-bearer, describing him as a capable and trusted leader who can rally support and deepen the party’s structures ahead of the polls. The state NDC leadership has also used his candidacy to woo aggrieved aspirants from other major parties, signalling a broader strategy to capitalise on dissatisfaction within rival platforms before 2027.
