Rivers United Football Club has confirmed that its team bus was involved in a road traffic collision on the Obiri‑Ikwerre Airport Road outside Port Harcourt today while heading to Awka for the President Federation Cup Round of 16 tie with Nasarawa United; a number of players and officials suffered minor injuries and are receiving treatment, and all are reported to be stable.

Rivers United FC said  that its squad was involved in a road accident shortly after leaving the club’s camp for the trip to Awka in Anambra State. The club reported the crash occurred along the Obiri‑Ikwerre Airport Road on the outskirts of Port Harcourt. Several members of the party  including players and club officials  sustained minor injuries. There have been no deaths or life‑threatening injuries, and those affected are under medical care and in stable condition, the statement said.

Rivers United emphasized that the welfare of its players and staff is the club’s top concern. The club medical team is monitoring everyone involved while management evaluates the situation and arranges next steps.

The club expressed gratitude for the messages, prayers and support from fans, partners and the football community. It added that updates about travel arrangements and the status of the Federation Cup fixture will be provided when available.

Rivers United did not immediately indicate whether the match against Nasarawa United will go ahead as scheduled; competition organisers or the Nigeria Football Federation are expected to issue guidance depending on medical clearances and logistical considerations.
