A woman has been apprehended at Nkwo Orji Market in Owerri, Imo State, after she was allegedly caught attempting to steal a 25-gallon container of groundnut oil through a carefully planned swap.

According to eyewitnesses, the suspect arrived at the market carrying a yellow 25-gallon container filled with water. She reportedly placed the container in a shop and pretended to be negotiating the purchase of a similar quantity of groundnut oil.

After spending considerable time bargaining with the trader, she allegedly switched her water-filled container with the trader’s container of groundnut oil in an attempt to leave unnoticed.

However, the seller reportedly detected the swap and raised an alarm, leading to the suspect’s immediate apprehension. She was subsequently handed over to market security officials for further action.

Witnesses said the woman was made to carry the container she brought to the market and was paraded around the market premises by security personnel following the incident.

Some individuals at the scene also alleged that the suspect had been involved in similar incidents in the past and had reportedly been apprehended at other markets within Owerri. However, these claims have not been independently verified.

The incident has since generated widespread reactions, with videos of the suspect circulating on social media.
