The Ebonyi State Police Command has dismissed reports alleging an invasion of Nguzu Edda Community in Edda Local Government Area by armed bandits and suspected Fulani herdsmen, describing the claims as false and misleading.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, said the Command launched an immediate verification exercise following the circulation of a viral social media video and report claiming that criminal elements had infiltrated the community.

According to him, the Commissioner of Police, CP Hope Okafor, deployed tactical police units to Nguzu Edda, where extensive search-and-combing operations were conducted across bushes and surrounding communities.

The police said the operation found no evidence of bandits or suspected herdsmen in the area, stressing that the report was intended to create panic and fear among residents.

The Command urged members of the public to disregard the claims and remain calm, noting that adequate security measures have been put in place to protect lives and property across Ebonyi State.

CP Hope Okafor further encouraged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines.
