Senate Deputy Chief Whip and Senator representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District, Onyekachi Nwebonyi, has dismissed calls by his APGA challenger, Chief Chikodiri Ojimba, to withdraw from the 2027 senatorial race, insisting that he remains unbeatable in the district.

Speaking during an interview, Nwebonyi rejected claims of an existing agreement limiting senators from Ebonyi North to a single tenure, challenging proponents of the arrangement to produce evidence. He cited former Governor and Senator Samuel Egwu, who served two terms in the Senate, as proof that no such agreement exists.

The lawmaker highlighted his achievements in office, including road projects, scholarships, agricultural empowerment programmes, and federal infrastructure attracted to the zone, arguing that his performance has earned him the right to seek re-election.

Taking a swipe at Ojimba, Nwebonyi advised the businessman to focus on his private ventures rather than aspiring to the Senate. According to him, political leadership requires experience, intellectual capacity, and a proven record of public service, not merely success in business.

The senator further expressed confidence that the APC would dominate the 2027 elections in Ebonyi State, praising President Bola Tinubu and Governor Francis Nwifuru for what he described as transformative development projects across the state.

On concerns about divisions within the Izzi clan, Nwebonyi maintained that the group is now united under the leadership of Governor Nwifuru and warned against attempts to revive old political rivalries based on kindred affiliations.

He concluded by insisting that both he and the governor currently have no serious political rivals in Ebonyi State ahead of the next general election.
