The management of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Igbariam, Anambra State, has dismissed five staff members over allegations of sexual abuse, harassment, extortion, intimidation, and other forms of professional misconduct.

The decision was approved during the university’s 122nd Governing Council meeting as part of efforts to strengthen discipline and uphold ethical standards within the institution.

According to the university’s Public Relations Officer, Dr. Harrison Madubueze, those affected include a former Dean of the Faculty of Law, a lecturer in the Department of Political Science, two lecturers from the Department of Microbiology, and a senior administrative officer formerly attached to the Faculty of Law.

The university stated that investigations found the affected staff culpable of serious violations, including alleged sexual exploitation, abuse of office, intimidation, and financial extortion.

Management emphasized its commitment to maintaining a safe and conducive learning environment, stressing that it would not tolerate any conduct capable of tarnishing the institution’s reputation or compromising academic integrity.

The university reiterated its resolve to enforce discipline and protect the welfare of students and staff across its campuses.
