Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has alleged that some governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) attempted to remove Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State as Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF).
Speaking at a stakeholders’ rally in Abakaliki in support of the re-election bids of President Bola Tinubu and himself, Nwifuru claimed the move was politically motivated and that those behind it falsely linked the plan to President Tinubu.
The governor praised President Tinubu for thwarting the alleged plot, describing the President’s response as a demonstration of strategic leadership and political wisdom.
Nwifuru also reaffirmed Uzodimma’s position as PGF Chairman, noting that his emergence reflected the President’s commitment to the interests of the South-East within the ruling party.
The remarks come amid reports of recent disagreements among some APC governors over the leadership and influence of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, which reportedly sparked moves to challenge Uzodimma’s leadership.
