Concern is mounting over the worsening condition of the Nnewi Oba, Okigwe Road, a major federal highway linking key commercial and residential communities in Anambra State and beyond.
The road, which serves as a strategic corridor connecting Onitsha and Nnewi, two of the state’s foremost economic hubs has reportedly deteriorated, making travel increasingly difficult and posing safety risks to motorists and commuters.
Stakeholders and residents have called for urgent intervention, noting that the highway plays a critical role in facilitating trade, transportation, and economic activities across Anambra South Senatorial District and neighboring Imo State.
The appeal comes as the administration of Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo continues its road infrastructure development drive, including the dualization of major trunk roads across the state.
Observers believe that given its economic importance and strategic location, the Nnewi Oba, Okigwe Road deserves priority attention for reconstruction and dualization to improve connectivity, enhance road safety, and boost commercial activities in the region.
