Former Dean of the Faculty of Law at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Igbariam, Prof. Chudi Charles Nwabachili, has denied reports claiming he was dismissed from the institution, insisting that he voluntarily resigned due to what he described as a toxic and unmanageable work environment.

In a statement issued in Awka, Prof. Nwabachili said he was surprised by social media reports alleging his dismissal, noting that he had not received any official communication from the university confirming such action.

He explained that he formally resigned from COOU effective May 5, 2026, and therefore questioned the basis of any alleged dismissal after his exit from the institution.

The former Dean also addressed past allegations of gross misconduct linked to his tenure, including claims of examination result manipulation. He stated that the matter was previously investigated, and no evidence of wrongdoing was established against him.

According to him, he was suspended for about eleven months during the investigation but was later reinstated after authorities found no direct connection between him and the alleged irregularities.

Prof. Nwabachili maintained that his resignation was a personal decision driven by dissatisfaction with the work environment in the Faculty of Law, which he described as toxic and difficult to manage.

He also criticised the process behind the reported dismissal claims, describing it as procedurally flawed and inconsistent with the university’s regulations.

The academic insisted that no misconduct was proven against him and pledged to pursue legal action to defend his reputation if necessary.

The university management has not issued any public clarification on the matter as of press time.
