The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the distribution of sensitive election materials ahead of Saturday’s Rivers South-East Senatorial District by-election.

The exercise took place at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) office in Port Harcourt, where electoral officials, political party representatives, security agencies, and observers monitored the sorting and deployment of ballot papers and result sheets.

Speaking during the distribution, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Rivers State, Dr. Johnson Alalibo, assured stakeholders that all sensitive materials were intact, secure, and free from any form of tampering.

He disclosed that the materials would be transported under tight security to the seven local government areas participating in the by-election.

Alalibo expressed confidence in INEC’s preparedness to conduct a credible, transparent, and peaceful election, while urging political party agents and election observers to remain vigilant and support the integrity of the electoral process.

The exercise was supervised by INEC National Commissioner, Prof. May Agbamuche-Mbu, alongside Resident Electoral Commissioners from several states, as part of efforts to ensure a smooth and successful poll.

INEC reiterated its commitment to conducting an election that reflects the will of the people and adheres to the highest standards of transparency and fairness.
