The Nigeria Youth Organisation (NYO) has called on Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, to clarify remarks he allegedly made during a recent endorsement rally for President Bola Tinubu and his administration in Abakaliki.

The governor was quoted as saying that his government had the capacity to “consume” or “destroy” anyone attempting to challenge it, a statement that has since generated public reactions.

Addressing journalists in Abuja, NYO Deputy National President, Nasir Doka, described the remarks as inappropriate and potentially capable of being interpreted as threatening, particularly by young people and political opponents.

Doka stressed that elected leaders must exercise caution in their public statements, noting that words spoken by those in authority carry significant weight and can influence public perception and political stability.

The youth organisation urged Governor Nwifuru to publicly explain the context and intent of the statement to reassure citizens of his commitment to democratic principles, political tolerance, and freedom of expression.

NYO also called on political leaders across the country to adopt responsible communication capable of promoting peace and reducing political tension, while urging security agencies to remain vigilant against any acts of intimidation or violence.

The group appealed to youths and residents of Ebonyi State to remain calm, law-abiding, and committed to peaceful democratic engagement.
