The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has presented Certificates of Return to winners of the June 20 bye-elections held in Enugu, Rivers, Nasarawa, Ondo and Kano states.
The presentation ceremony took place in Abuja, where INEC’s Supervising National Commissioner for Rivers State, Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu, handed over the certificates on behalf of the Commission’s Chairman.
Among the beneficiaries were Asogwa Ikeje Israel of the APC, who won the Enugu North Senatorial District seat; Danladi Envulu-Anza of the APC for Nasarawa North Senatorial District; Olaka Nwogu of the PDP for Rivers South-East Senatorial District; and Rabiu Shuaibu of the APC for the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency in Kano State. The winner of the Ondo South Senatorial District election, Dayo Faduyile of the APC, was absent from the ceremony.
Speaking at the event, Agbamuche-Mbu congratulated the winners and commended political parties, candidates and supporters for maintaining peace throughout the electoral process. She urged the newly elected representatives to justify the mandate given to them by delivering effective representation and promoting development in their constituencies.
INEC also announced that Certificates of Return would be presented to winners of other elections conducted on June 20, including a state constituency election in Kebbi State and the governorship election in Ekiti State.
The commission expressed optimism that the elected officials would contribute positively to democratic governance and the growth of their respective communities.
