The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) says it has rescued more than 64 victims of human trafficking in Ebonyi State between 2022 and 2026.

Speaking during a media briefing, the Ebonyi State Commander of NAPTIP, Mrs. Offor Berther, disclosed that the rescued victims, comprising children and adults, were trafficked to Ghana, Libya, and other parts of Nigeria.

She revealed that the command also arrested over 90 suspects, investigated 74 trafficking-related cases, and currently has eight cases pending in court.

According to the commander, NAPTIP has intensified awareness campaigns in 64 schools, established anti-trafficking clubs in 19 schools, and set up community watchdog groups in 24 communities to strengthen efforts against human trafficking.

Mrs. Offor urged residents to report suspected trafficking cases through the agency’s emergency line and appealed to landlords to request valid identification documents, including NIN, BVN, and workplace IDs, from prospective tenants to help curb criminal activities.

She also called on the Ebonyi State Government, corporate organisations, and philanthropists to support the agency with operational vehicles and shelter facilities for rescued victims to improve its operations and victim care.
