The Enugu State Government has constituted a Caretaker Committee to oversee traders’ welfare and administrative affairs at the World Bank Section of Orba International Market in Udenu Local Government Area.
The committee, constituted by the Ministry of Trade, Investment and Industry, officially took effect on June 26, 2026, and will serve for an initial period of three months.
According to the ministry, the decision follows the suspension of all traders’ union activities within the World Bank Section of the market and is aimed at maintaining order, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and coordinating welfare-related matters affecting traders.
The committee is chaired by Hon. Henry Okpe, with Chief Patrick Obinna Ezema, Mrs. Gladys Ifeoma Chidiebere, Mr. Onugwueze Ambrose Nwoye and Mr. George Onu serving as members. Mr. George Onu, Deputy Director of Market Development and Export Promotion in the Ministry of Trade, Investment and Industry, will also serve as the committee’s secretary.
The ministry directed the committee to carry out its responsibilities with neutrality, transparency and strict adherence to due process while engaging relevant stakeholders to promote peace, orderliness and uninterrupted commercial activities within the market.
It also urged traders and other stakeholders to cooperate fully with the committee throughout its tenure to ensure effective administration and a conducive business environment at the World Bank Section of Orba International Market.
