The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2027 election in Abia State, Dr. Kelechi Anosike, has unveiled an ambitious policy agenda, promising to implement a ₦90,000 minimum wage for public servants and pursue full financial autonomy for local government councils if elected governor.
Anosike made the pledge on Thursday after he was formally presented to journalists at the PDP State Secretariat in Umuahia by the party’s State Chairman, Elder Abraham Amah.
Speaking on his vision for the state, the legal practitioner said workers’ welfare would be a top priority of his administration, assuring civil servants that they would receive their salaries and entitlements promptly.
Describing himself as a welfare-driven leader, Anosike said no worker under his administration would be denied legitimate benefits.
“A labourer deserves to be paid promptly for his or her services. My administration will prioritise the welfare of workers and ensure that no one is deprived of what is rightfully theirs,” he stated.
Beyond improving workers’ welfare, the PDP candidate pledged to implement reforms aimed at strengthening the civil service, including the establishment of a Civil Service College, introduction of vehicle loan schemes for workers and improved conditions of service.
He also promised to remove obstacles preventing full financial autonomy for local government councils, arguing that empowering the third tier of government is essential for grassroots development and effective service delivery.
Anosike said his administration would draw inspiration from the development philosophy of the late Dr. Michael Okpara by prioritising agriculture, infrastructure, industrialisation and sustainable economic growth.
According to him, Abia State has sufficient financial resources to drive development but requires prudent management and visionary leadership to unlock its full potential.
The PDP governorship candidate also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s removal of fuel subsidy, noting that the policy had significantly increased federal allocations to states and enhanced their financial capacity.
He argued that the improved revenue profile of states should translate into better infrastructure, economic opportunities and improved living standards for citizens.
Anosike further criticised the Abia State Government’s ban on commercial motorcycle operations, insisting that adequate alternatives should have been provided before implementing the policy.
He assured residents that his administration would adopt a holistic approach to governance focused on inclusive development and people-centred policies.
Earlier, the Abia PDP Chairman, Elder Abraham Amah, said Anosike emerged as the party’s governorship candidate through a transparent and democratic process, describing him as a leader with the competence, experience and vision to reposition the state.
Amah maintained that governance should be evaluated based on tangible achievements rather than political rhetoric, adding that despite increased federal allocations to states, Abia deserves more visible development, improved infrastructure, job creation and stronger public institutions.
He expressed confidence that Anosike’s candidacy would provide Abians with a credible alternative and a renewed pathway to economic growth and sustainable development ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
