The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, has declared that the state is currently leading the South-East in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise being conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Emegha made the disclosure while speaking with journalists in Abakaliki after a stakeholders’ meeting of the APC, attributing the state’s performance to the collective efforts of party stakeholders, local government officials and community leaders who have intensified voter mobilisation across the state.

According to him, the overwhelming turnout of prospective voters prompted the party to engage the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for additional registration machines to address shortages experienced in various local government areas.

He revealed that INEC responded positively by providing more registration machines, which have since been distributed to areas with high demand to ensure eligible residents are not denied the opportunity to register.

“We appealed to the INEC headquarters for additional machines because those initially allocated to the local governments were insufficient to accommodate the large number of people coming out to register. We have now received the extra machines and distributed them accordingly,” he said.

The APC chairman explained that registration teams have also been deployed to tertiary institutions and other locations across the state to make the exercise more accessible, particularly for residents who may find it difficult to visit their designated registration centres.

Emegha stressed that the campaign for voter registration is non-partisan, insisting that every eligible resident should obtain a Permanent Voter Card (PVC) regardless of political affiliation.

“Our priority is to ensure that Ebonyi records a high number of registered voters. We are not asking people who they intend to vote for. What matters now is that they register so Ebonyi can have a stronger voice when national figures are being considered,” he stated.

He maintained that Ebonyi currently ranks highest among the South-East states in the voter registration exercise and expressed confidence that the state would sustain the momentum through continued collaboration among stakeholders.

The APC chairman urged all eligible residents who are yet to register to take advantage of the ongoing exercise, describing voter registration as a civic responsibility and a vital step toward participating in the democratic process during the 2027 general elections.
