A member of the Enugu State House of Assembly representing Nkanu East State Constituency, Hon. Okey Mbah, has sponsored the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) fees for 250 students in his constituency as part of his commitment to expanding access to education.

The lawmaker, who also serves as Chairman of the House Committee on Housing and Foreign Investment, disclosed this on Thursday while presenting his stewardship report to constituents in Enugu.

According to Mbah, the education support initiative is one of several interventions undertaken during his three years in office to ease the financial burden on families and encourage students to pursue higher education without interruption.

Beyond educational assistance, the first-term legislator highlighted key achievements since assuming office in 2023, including the sponsorship of bills and motions, execution of constituency projects, and oversight of budget implementation across critical sectors.

He said his legislative interventions have focused on improving education, healthcare, infrastructure, youth empowerment and security, while also ensuring that government projects are effectively delivered to communities within his constituency.

Mbah noted that he actively monitored the implementation of state government projects, including road construction, healthcare centres, schools, boreholes, electricity infrastructure and security initiatives across Nkanu East.

The lawmaker also disclosed that the House Committee on Housing and Foreign Investment, which he chairs, has successfully resolved more than 35 petitions through peaceful mediation, contributing to effective legislative oversight and conflict resolution.

He emphasised the importance of regular engagement with constituents, describing it as a vital tool for promoting transparency, accountability and inclusive governance.

“Constant interaction with my constituents gives me the opportunity to render an account of my stewardship and, more importantly, to listen to their concerns and suggestions,” he said.

Mbah also commended Governor Peter Mbah for the ongoing development projects across Enugu State, particularly those impacting Nkanu East Constituency, noting that the administration’s investments in infrastructure and public services have contributed significantly to improving the quality of life for residents.

He reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining people-oriented programmes and attracting more developmental projects to the constituency in the years ahead.
