The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the 2027 election in Abia State, Dr. Kelechi Anosike, has expressed confidence that the party will return to power, declaring that Abians are yearning for a government that prioritises the welfare of the people.

Anosike made the declaration while addressing journalists at the PDP State Secretariat in Umuahia during a thank-you visit to party stakeholders and delegates following the completion of his Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) documentation in Abuja.

According to him, the PDP’s defeat in the 2023 governorship election was largely due to internal disunity, adding that the party has now regained its strength and unity ahead of the 2027 polls.

He said the PDP remains the only political party with a functional grassroots structure across all wards and polling units in the state, expressing confidence that the party is well-positioned to reclaim power.

Describing himself as a “welfarist,” Anosike promised that his administration, if elected, would place workers’ welfare ahead of infrastructure development.

He pledged to review the salary structure of civil servants, local government workers and judicial staff, promising to implement a ₦90,000 minimum wage with a target of increasing it to ₦100,000 within two years.

The PDP candidate also assured pensioners of improved welfare through pension reviews and access to health insurance.

To tackle unemployment, Anosike unveiled plans to establish the Abia Labour Global Opportunities Agency (ALGOA), an initiative aimed at equipping young people with digital skills and connecting them to remote jobs with international employers.

He explained that the programme would enable youths to earn foreign income while working from any part of Abia State.

Anosike also proposed the establishment of the Abia State Informal Sector Development Regulatory Agency (ASIDRA) to register, certify and empower artisans such as electricians, mechanics and plumbers, enabling them to improve their skills, earn better incomes and compete in wider markets.

Other policy proposals unveiled by the PDP candidate include the “Operation Feed Abia” agricultural programme, the establishment of a sports academy to revive sporting excellence in the state, the revitalisation of primary healthcare centres and the introduction of an expanded health insurance scheme under which the government would subsidise up to 70 per cent of health insurance premiums for civil servants.

He further promised to reform the justice system by ensuring speedy dispensation of cases and reducing prolonged detention without trial.

Anosike urged Abians to support the PDP in 2027, assuring workers, pensioners, youths and farmers that his administration would focus on inclusive governance and improved living standards.
