Twenty outstanding students from Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State have departed Nigeria for Kigali, Rwanda, to participate in the 2026 Pan-African Innovation Boot Camp, a programme designed to equip young Africans with cutting-edge technological and leadership skills.

The delegation is being led by the Mayor of Aguata LGA, Dr. Chibueze Ofobuike, who described the initiative as a strategic investment in the future of education and youth development.

The students emerged as finalists in the 2026 Aguata Best Students Challenge, an academic competition aimed at identifying and rewarding exceptional young talents across the local government.

The boot camp, scheduled to hold at Ntare Louiselund International School in Kigali, will bring together students from different African countries for intensive training in robotics, artificial intelligence (AI), digital storytelling, innovation, leadership and global collaboration.

According to the organisers, the programme will also provide participants with international exposure, networking opportunities and practical skills needed to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven world.

Speaking ahead of the trip, Dr. Ofobuike expressed appreciation to the sponsors and partners who provided the financial and logistical support that made the educational tour possible.

He noted that investing in young people remains one of the most effective ways to secure a brighter future for Aguata and Anambra State.

The twenty students selected for the programme are drawn from various secondary schools across Aguata Local Government Area, reflecting the area’s commitment to academic excellence and talent development.

The Mayor expressed confidence that the experience gained in Rwanda would inspire the students to pursue greater achievements and become ambassadors of innovation in their communities.

The initiative has been widely commended by education stakeholders, who describe it as a significant step towards exposing Nigerian students to global best practices in science, technology and innovation.
