Three Nigerian students have brought pride to the nation after winning four gold medals at the 2026 International STEM Olympiad Grand Finale in Rome, Italy, outperforming participants from over 150 countries.

Seventeen-year-old Don Anele Munachimso Marvelous of Diamond Special College, Owerri, emerged as the World’s Best in Science and also won gold in Mathematics, earning two gold medals.

Also shining at the global competition were 13-year-old Chimdiebube Onwubiko of Evergreen Schools, Enugu State, who won gold in the Junior Mathematics category, and 11-year-old Egejurum Onyedikachi Ethan, who emerged as the World’s Best in Primary Mathematics after organisers corrected an earlier omission of his result.

The Nigerian team’s participation was sponsored by education advocate Alex Onyia, who funded the students’ trip and described the achievement as proof that investing in gifted children yields global results.

The students qualified for the international competition after emerging champions at the South East Maths Olympiad, reinforcing Nigeria’s growing reputation for academic excellence in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

Their remarkable feat has been widely celebrated as a testament to the country’s immense talent and the impact of investing in quality education.
