The Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening security and the justice system with the donation of five brand-new operational vehicles, popularly known as “Green Marias,” to the Delta State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service.

The vehicles were officially handed over at Government House, Asaba, in a move aimed at enhancing the operational efficiency of the Correctional Service and supporting peace and security across the state.

Represented by the Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, Governor Oborevwori said the donation reflects his administration’s resolve to provide critical logistical support to security and justice institutions, noting that effective correctional services depend on reliable mobility and operational capacity.

He said the vehicles would improve the day-to-day activities of correctional officers, boost emergency response, strengthen supervision and coordination, and enhance the overall discharge of their responsibilities.

According to the governor, equipping the Command with the necessary operational tools is part of the state’s broader commitment to building a more efficient justice system and a safer Delta.

He said; ​”these operational vehicles will enhance the day-to-day activities of officers, improve response capacity, strengthen supervision and coordination, and support the effective discharge of their responsibilities.

“By equipping the Command with the tools it needs to perform optimally, we are reinforcing our commitment to a more efficient justice and security system.

“As I hand over these vehicles today, I reaffirm the commitment of the Delta State Government to working with all security and justice institutions in building a safer and more secure State for all.

“The presentation of these five brand-new operational vehicles (Green Marias) to the Delta State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service is a donation that practically demonstrate our resolve to strengthen the justice system and support the institutions responsible for maintaining peace, security, and the rule of law bearing in mind that an efficient correctional service depends on reliable logistics and mobility.

The Delta State Governor noted that although the Nigerian Correctional Service is a federal institution, its role in safeguarding lives and maintaining public order is indispensable, stressing that his administration would continue to partner with federal security agencies under the fourth pillar of the MORE Agenda, which focuses on enhanced peace and security.

He maintained that lasting peace and security remain the foundation for sustainable development and shared prosperity in Delta State.

The governor also charged officers of the Command to ensure the vehicles are properly maintained and deployed strictly for official duties with the highest standards of professionalism, accountability and integrity.

Responding on behalf of the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Mr. Sylvester Nwakuche, the Controller of Corrections, Delta State Command, Mr. Chuke Idoko, expressed appreciation to Governor Oborevwori and the Delta State Government for the gesture.

He gave an assurance that the vehicles would be put to effective use in strengthening the Command’s operations and improving service delivery.
