The All Progressives Congress (APC) is set to officially unveil Vice President Kashim Shettima as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s running mate for the 2027 presidential election, ending months of intense speculation over his political future.
The National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC, alongside top party leaders, is currently meeting at the Continental Hotel in Abuja, where the formal announcement is expected to be made.
The development comes after widespread rumours that President Tinubu was considering replacing Shettima with a northern Christian in a bid to reshape the party’s presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 polls.
However, senior APC leaders at the venue confirmed that the President has decided to retain Shettima, reaffirming confidence in his deputy and putting to rest months of uncertainty.
According to party insiders, President Tinubu has officially re-nominated Shettima as his running mate, with the APC expected to make the decision public at the ongoing gathering in Abuja.
The anticipated announcement is expected to signal the beginning of the party’s preparations for the 2027 presidential election as it moves to present a united front behind the Tinubu-Shettima ticket.
