The Abia State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old suspect, Chidera Okorie, for allegedly robbing unsuspecting residents with a fake firearm in Umunneochi Local Government Area of the state.
The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka.
According to the statement, operatives of the Isuochi Divisional Police Headquarters acted on credible intelligence on July 5, 2026, leading to the suspect’s arrest at Obinolu Ngodo Isuochi.
Police said the suspect allegedly used a stainless-steel cigarette lighter designed to resemble a pistol to intimidate victims and dispossess them of their valuables.
The Command disclosed that other items believed to be connected to the suspect’s activities were recovered during the operation.
DSP Chinaka said investigations are ongoing and assured that the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Police Command also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities or security concerns to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency hotlines.
