The Acting Managing Director of the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS), Barrister Juliet Mbonu Ike, has called on members of staff and labour unions to work together in protecting the organisation and safeguarding its assets to ensure its continued growth and sustainability.

Mrs. Mbonu Ike made the appeal while receiving members of the Caretaker and Credentials Committees of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), ABS Chapels, during a courtesy visit to the ABS Headquarters in Awka.

She described constructive criticism as an important tool for effective leadership, noting that honest feedback helps management identify challenges and improve organisational performance.

The Acting Managing Director commended the NUJ for its commitment to the welfare of members and urged journalists to continue promoting unity, professionalism and teamwork in support of the organisation’s progress.

She also encouraged staff to remain dedicated to their responsibilities and strive to build lasting legacies through integrity and excellence in service.

Speaking during the visit, the Chairman of the NUJ ABS Chapels Caretaker Committee, Comrade Joseph Egbeocha, commended the achievements recorded under Mrs. Mbonu Ike’s leadership and expressed optimism that staff welfare would continue to receive priority.

He explained that the visit was to formally notify the management of the forthcoming 2026 NUJ ABS Chapel elections scheduled to hold in Awka and Onitsha, while seeking the support of the management for a successful exercise.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Credentials Committee, Comrade David Okpokwasili, assured members that all preparations had been concluded and pledged that the election would be free, fair, credible and transparent.

The Treasurer of the NUJ Anambra State Council, Comrade Chibuzo Obidike, reaffirmed the union’s commitment to supporting the management in repositioning ABS for improved service delivery.

The meeting was also attended by the Secretary of the NUJ ABS Chapels, Comrade Emmanuel Okonkwo, and a member of the Credentials Committee, Comrade Amaka Onwuzulike.
