The Anambra State Government says it is putting in place a framework to compensate property owners whose lands and buildings will be affected by the construction of a proposed 132KV electricity transmission line aimed at improving power supply across parts of the state.
The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Barrister Chijioke Ojukwu, disclosed this while briefing journalists in Awka, assuring affected residents that the compensation process would be transparent, fair and in line with legal provisions.
According to the commissioner, the Federal Government project, being executed through the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), will pass through Nnobi, Awka-Etiti and Nnewi communities, with the objective of strengthening electricity supply to Nnewi and surrounding areas while supporting industrial and economic growth.
Barrister Ojukwu said the government has completed the identification and marking of the project’s right-of-way and will soon commence the documentation and verification of affected properties.
He explained that the exercise would involve the collection of relevant ownership documents, assessment of compensation where applicable and the publication of an official gazette revoking affected properties in accordance with the law.
The commissioner expressed confidence that the transmission project would significantly boost electricity supply, promote industrial development and further position Anambra as a leading commercial and manufacturing hub.
He appealed to affected property owners and community stakeholders to cooperate with the government, assuring them that the Soludo administration remains committed to protecting the interests of residents while delivering critical infrastructure projects for the state’s development.
